Things

In Kwipoo, Things represent the items or products you own and want to keep track of—everything from a camera or a camping tent to a dresser or a pair of skis. Unlike Spots (which are areas within a Place), Things can be moved, sold, or transferred between different Places or Spots.

Why Use Things?

  • Central Inventory: Quickly see what you own and where it’s stored (e.g., a hammer in your “Garage,” a tent in “Storage Unit”).
  • Detailed Info: Add descriptions, costs, brands, and categories to streamline maintenance, budgeting, or even insurance purposes.
  • Flexible Organization: Assign each Thing to a Spot or add it to multiple Sets, making it easy to plan events or track gear bundles.
  • Future Features: Things may one day include warranty tracking, service reminders, or marketplace listings for selling and swapping.

Creating a Thing

  1. Open the Things Section
    • Depending on your interface, select Things from the main menu or dashboard.
  2. Add a New Thing
    • Click + Add Thing (button name may vary).
  3. Enter Basic Details
    • Name: What do you call this item? (e.g., “Tent,” “Mountain Bike,” “Snowboard”)
    • Description (optional): Any notes about its condition, color, or special features.
    • Category: Choose from the suggested categories (e.g., “Camping,” “Tools,” “Clothing”) or create your own.
    • Cost/Value (optional): Helps you track your total investment.
    • Quantity (if relevant): If you own multiple identical items (e.g., “2 folding chairs”).
  4. Add an Image (optional)
    • Upload or snap a photo so you can visually identify the item.
  5. Select a Place/Spot
    • Assign your Thing to its current location (e.g., “Home > Basement,” “Storage Unit > Shelf A”). You can move it later if needed.
  6. Save
    • Click Save to confirm your new Thing.

Example

  • “Tent”: Category = Camping, Cost = $200, Spot = “Garage”
  • “Cordless Drill”: Category = Tools, Cost = $80, Spot = “Tool Shed”
  • “Road Bike”: Category = Sports Gear, Spot = “Garage Rack”

Editing & Updating a Thing

  1. Find Your Thing
    • In the Things section, scroll or search for the item.
  2. Edit
    • Click Edit (or tap the item, then select an edit icon).
  3. Change Details
    • Update the name, description, category, cost, or image.
  4. Move to a Different Spot
    • If you physically moved the item, select the new Place/Spot in the dropdown.
  5. Save
    • Confirm changes with Save.

Tip

Moving a Thing between Places/Spots ensures your digital inventory always matches real-life locations.

Using Things in Sets & Events

  • Sets: Group multiple Things into a cohesive set, like a “Camping Setup” with a tent, sleeping bag, and camp stove. Once you’ve created a set, you can assign or remove Things as needed.
  • Events: For a group trip or solo adventure, add the Things you plan to bring. If it’s a group event, everyone can see what gear is being contributed, preventing duplicates.

Weight Tracking

If you enter the weight for each Thing (in the Thing details), Kwipoo can sum those weights in your Set or Event—especially handy for backpackers or travelers wanting to watch carry-on limits.

Filtering & Analytics

  • Filter by Category or Brand: Want to see all your “Camping” gear or all items from “Patagonia”? Filters help you quickly locate or analyze your inventory.
  • Cost Summaries: Summaries let you see the total cost of your items by category, source, or brand—a big help for budgeting or insurance documentation.

Privacy & Visibility

  • Thing-Level Settings: You can often control whether each Thing is fully private, public, or visible only to specific people you connect with on Kwipoo.
  • Sensitive/High-Value Items: Keep expensive or personal items private while still allowing other items to be shared or visible to friends or event attendees.

Future Expansions

  • Sub-Spots Within Things: Some day, a large Thing (like a dresser) may have internal Spots (e.g., “Drawer 1,” “Drawer 2”).
  • Warranties & Services: Track product warranties, schedule maintenance reminders, or link a new purchase to its manual.
  • Marketplace Integration: If you decide to sell or trade an item, you could list it on Kwipoo’s future marketplace in just a few clicks.
